Vanilla Shakeology and New Nars love for Thursday Things!

So I got my Vanilla Shakeology yesterday and tried it this morning...IN LOVE! Vanilla is such a versatile flavor and I'm so excited Beachbody was able to come up with this new flavor of Shakeology and keeping true to the Beachbody name by having no artificial ingredients! The shake I made this morning tasted like banana bread, so good!

Banana Bread Shakeology

1 scoop or packet of Vanilla Shakeology
1.5 cups of unsweetened almond/coconut milk
1/2 banana
1/2 tsp of vanilla nut butter extract (could sub with just vanilla or butter extract, maybe even almond extract!)
pinch of nutmeg
pinch of cinnamon
1 tbsp of hemp seeds
ice to taste (add as much as you want until you get your desired consistency)
*If you need it sweetened more try adding date paste or your favorite sweetener!

Throw it all in a blender and your meal will be ready before you know it!!

For today's Thursday Things:

If you know me you know I am obsessed with makeup! I can't get enough of it and since we are saving for the wedding I've had to tone down my splurges a lot. I  wanted to share my new favorite lippy at the moment! On Sunday before I went to try on wedding dresses (By the way I got THE dress! SO excited, wish I could share it but I don't want Dan seeing it!) I went to the mall to pick up some candles from Bath and Body Works and to Sephora to get a new eyeliner (Urban Decay 24/7 Zero is my fav). While I was in there I had to browse. Seriously I cannot go into Sephora without browsing! I've wanted to check out Nars new Satin Lip Pencils for awhile but haven't gotten around to it. I swatched a bunch of the colors but when I swatched Yu I fell in LOVE. It is described as a shocking pink. It is so pretty! Definitely not an everyday wear to work color but you better believe this weekend I'm wearing it out even if its during the day :) I also can't wait for the next date night with Dan because I am getting dressed up and wearing Yu for sure! Next time you are by a retailer who sells Nars check it out if you haven't already. Nars has amazing stuff and the pigment is outstanding. I personally love their blushes, bronzer, lip sticks, lip gloss, and lip pencils.

It's almost Friday, yay! I hope you all have had a fantastic week!!! <3

My favorite dinner from last week and a GIVEAWAY!

Ok I HAD to share this dinner! It was so good and simple. You just FEEL healthy eating it ;-)

I found it on Pinterest, of course!

Detox Salad
slightly adapted from Oh She Glows

Makes 10 cups

Ingredients
-2 heads of broccoli (remove stems)
-1 head of cauliflower (remove stems)
-2.5 cups shredded carrots
-1/2 sunflower seeds
-1 cup dried cherries
-1/2 cup fresh chopped parsley
-1/2 cup raisins (I did a mix of regular and golden raisins because that is what I had on hand)
-1/2 bunch of kale
-4-6 tbsp fresh lemon juice to taste
-Himalayan salt and black pepper to taste
-Grade B pure maple syrup

Method
-In a food processor process the broccoli, cauliflower, and kale until fine then add to a large bowl along with the shredded carrots. You probably have to do this in a few steps as all of these would not fit in my food processor at the same time.
-Stir in sunflower seeds, dried cherries, parsley, and raisins.
-Add lemon juice and seasonings to taste.
-Drizzle with maple syrup before serving.

I was very satisfied with just the salad! I put a grilled chicken breast on top of Dan's and he loved it. It was a little too much going on for Lee so he did not have any. Leftovers were great the next day and a couple days later too!

What we have been up to!

We have been so busy this past week! We went on vacation to California. We had such a great time! We got to spend some quality time with Dan's Grandmother, Mom, and nephew as well. I feel so blessed that Lee and I are welcomed into such an amazing, caring family.

We stayed in Escondido and visited the beaches in Oceanside and Carlsbad. We also went to Disneyland and California Adventure. It was a trip of firsts for Lee. First time at the beach and first time going to Disney and California Adventure. We made so many wonderful memories that we will carry with us for the rest of our lives. Here are some pictures!

My world!

So proud watching his Daddy ride the waves

He wanted this!

This is a moment I will remember forever. I had no idea Dan was snapping pictures and I'm so glad he did.

 Oceanside Pier

The best moment of Lee's life! If you don't know...Mickey is his best friend!

I was pretty excited too and couldn't resist some Minnie Ears

Teacups! They still make me just as nauseous as they did when I was a child.

My fav! My boys AND It's a Small World.

Who doesn't love Winnie the Pooh!?

 California Adventure was awesome!

Lee was upset after this because he wanted to take a ride INSIDE Lightning McQueen.

And after 12+ hours Lee couldn't hang anymore!

Now it is back to reality for us! I do feel refreshed as ever after the vacation since we do not have the opportunity to take many due to school and work. Last week I got back to working out after the Ultimate Reset. It felt so good to be back! My strength wasn't 100% back to where I was pre-reset but that is expected so I took it easy on the lifting so I wouldn't hurt myself. Dan also got back to it and said he feels great!

Here was my workout schedule for last week:

Monday-Legs and core with HIIT on the treadmill
Tuesday-Upper body with HIIT on the stairmill
Wednesday-Hot yoga (I missed this SO much)

Thursday through Sunday I didn't do much other than walk a ton since we were on vacation!

As far as food goes my favorite recipe I made from last week was Chipotle Pineapple Veggie Fajitas.

Chipotle Pineapple Veggie Fajitas
recipe from Lace, etc.

1-2 chipotle peppers in adobo sauce, chopped small (I used 3 because we like things really spicy)
1 can pineapple chunks, drained (personally I used half of a fresh pineapple)
2 tbsp olive oil
3 bell peppers (I did a mixture of red, yellow, and orange for color variation)
1 large onion

Below are the items I used for serving:
Small tortillas
Black beans cooked with a little olive oil, onions, minced garlic, cumin, chile powder, himalayan salt, and black pepper.
Avocado
Multi colored tomatoes from the farmers market

On Dan's I added cheddar cheese and chicken.

-Preheat oven to 425F.  Combine pineapple chunks and chipotle peppers in roasting pan and roast for 20-25 minutes.

-Meanwhile, slice bell peppers and onions.  Heat a nonstick pan over medium high heat.  Saute the peppers and onions until your heart desires depending on how crisp you like your veggies.

-Dan's chicken was seasoned with chile powder, cumin, garlic powder, himalayan salt, and black pepper and then grilled.

-Serve with toppings

The combination of sweet, savory, and spicy is phenomenal!

And lastly my tip for today for Tip Tuesday is to lift! I am directing this specifically towards the ladies because I know women are worried lifting will make them look manly or big. I used to be worried about that but it is so not the case. I have been lifting and I do not look manly. Muscle burns fat so you will actually achieve your goals quicker if you lift. Hours and hours of cardio is going to take you longer and you won't achieve that beautiful, toned look. So lift! And don't be afraid to lift heavy!! There are wonderful home fitness programs by Beachbody that can help you achieve this or you can simply go to the gym and lift! Or lift at home! The possibilities are endless. I know when I started to incorporate lifting into my workout regimen when I did Brazil Butt Lift I started seeing results faster and I was hooked on incorporating weights and lifting from that point on.

I hope you all are having a great week!

Tip Tuesday: Stop comparing yourself to others

Happy Tuesday!

Today I wanted to talk about comparing yourself to others. A lot of times we compare ourselves to others and get this sort of less than/better than attitude. No one is better than anyone else! You might think she has better legs than you but that's what is in your head! You might be upset because they are getting "better" or "faster" results than you. You might be upset that after losing 70lbs you have loose skin on your tummy but the woman who had multiple babies got away without as much as a stretch mark. Everyone perceives themselves and others differently. We truly are toughest on ourselves. We have to stop comparing ourselves to others! We are ALL beautiful and unique. We all have amazing qualities. When you are doing an exercise program focus on yourself and compete with yourself! If you are focusing on looking like someone else you are probably missing out on the amazing progress YOUR body is making. You are not them and your body may never look like their body. God made our bodies different and that is what makes us beautiful. We all have imperfections and insecurities. I have loose skin on my tummy from having a baby and while it used to bother me it doesn't anymore. If this is the way God made me then I love myself! I have a son and some women never get to be blessed with a child and I bet they would gladly take loose skin if it meant they could carry a child. In yoga they say to only focus on yourself in the mirror and what you are doing, no one else matters. There is no perfect pose. I LOVE that. Perfection is unattainable. We all just need to try to be the best that WE can be. Take pride in your accomplishments and your progress. Focus on the positives, not the negatives. Maybe you may not be able to run 6 miles like a friend of yours on Facebook but you might be able to run 1 mile when 6 months ago you could barely run for 30 seconds. And that is something to be proud of. So the next time you are working out try to focus on what you are doing for YOUR body, not someone else's.

You are all BEAUTIFUL!

We are off to California tomorrow and we are SO excited! I hope you all have a great week and weekend!

Ultimate Reset Day 19-21 with review and results

Happy Monday everyone! We made it! We feel like this lady!

Friday, Day 19

Breakfast was fruit! I have to be honest, on this day we were beginning to get burnt out on fruit.

Lunch was a microgreen salad and heart vegetable miso soup. Both so good! That soup is a great one to make and so easy.

Dinner was curried cauliflower and kale again. I really like the curried cauliflower!

Honestly on Friday I was struggling. I think because we were so close to the end and I was anticipating that. Plus with the low level of protein I was feeling tired at some points. Dan went out and golfed in the afternoon and he said he was light headed. 105+ degrees plus limited food is not a good combo!

Saturday, Day 20

Breakfast was fruit, enough said!

Lunch was a Vegan Tropical Strawberry Shakeology. I was so over salads and I felt really run down so I decided to make us Shakeo instead! The vegan shakeology flavors are approved on the reset and there are recipes in the booklet. Yum! It was good!

Dinner was asian stir fry and kale. Love the stir fry! It's made with coconut oil and full of flavor. The side was supposed to be collard greens but neither of us care for them much so kale was a great substitute.

Saturday was better. We felt so much better after having Shakeology. Both of us smiled after we took that first sip and Dan said, "Ahhhh this is what we needed!" I went wedding dress shopping with my mom and got a massage later in the day so I was feeling great. Boy oh boy did that massage feel good :)

Sunday, Day 21

Breakfast was fruit! Not bad that day, I think because we knew the next day we would be having something else.

Lunch was a microgreen salad. I do enjoy this salad--a lot! Seriously obsessed with toasted pumpkin seeds.

Dinner was roasted vegetables. Pretty good! I didn't make the avocado cucumber soup that was supposed to be paired with this though. Just made extra roasted veggies.

On day 21 we were feeling good. We knew the next day we could have more freedom eating and were excited about the next step.

Results and Thoughts

So here is what so many of you have been asking for...the results!

Dan lost 13 and a 1/2 pounds and I lost 11 and a 1/2 pounds. Which is CRAZY to me. I honestly did not expect to lose much since before the reset we ate balanced, were active, and were both at a healthy weight. We both will probably not stay at this weight since we both want to build more muscle--which is fine. The scale gives you nothing but a number that does not define you! But for the purpose of this cleanse I felt it was necessary to document everything which includes starting and ending weight. For reference, Dan is 5'10" and I am 5'4".

Check out those inches lost on Dan! He was happy about that. As for me I was shocked I lost so many inches. But hey if it needed to go then I'm fine with it. You are detoxing and resetting your body so if you get smaller in the process so be it!

Here are some before and after pictures:

Dan's results just blew me away!

It is hard to see in the pictures but I feel like the reset gave my muscles the ability to show more! Abs truly are made in the kitchen.

For me the biggest pros to the Ultimate Reset were:
-My body feels like it is running more efficiently.
-I'm no longer bloated (I was seriously bloated all the time before!)
-I learned new ways to cook so that you can keep the ingredients simple and whole but still taste great!
-Realized the need to incorporate more fruits and vegetables into our meals.
-Realized we no longer need to snack as much as we thought which included our nightly fudge or fruit bar!
-No longer have the NEED for coffee.
-We were able to rest our bodies.
-Growing experience--it is a tough program to follow but doing it together helped us grow as a couple and we are stronger than ever.
-Realized I do not NEED meat as a protein.

I asked Dan for his top 3 pros to the Ultimate Reset:
-Didn't rely on caffeine for energy
-He felt GOOD
-Lost unwanted fat

Now for my cons/struggles:
-It is a hard process, harder than any exercise program I've done
-Preparation time--with both of us working full time and having a son we have limited time at home during the week so I felt like every moment I was home I was in the kitchen. There is a lot of prep some days and at times this got to me.
-Hunger between breakfast and lunch. There is an optional snack between lunch and dinner so I was ok there but I was often hungry between breakfast and lunch.
-Going out and about. For example to a party or even just the mall. There is food everywhere!
-Moody. The Ultimate Reset has a common side effect of feeling down or irritated. It's just part of the detox process. Your body is working SO hard resetting itself and getting rid of all those yucky toxins that have built up. I felt really bad about my moody days. Anyone that came in contact with me did not get the best treatment!

Dan's top 3 cons:
-Hard process
-Sometimes hungry
-Hard process! :)

With all that said, it is a doable process and we got through it. Like anything else there were tough times. But nothing so negative that I needed to stop. I had a wonderful support group with my friends and family so when I struggled I reached out.  It actually went quicker than I thought! It is only 21 days...not a lifetime. I kept reminding myself all those things that were not reset approved would still be there on day 22 if I wanted to have them. I would definitely recommend this to anyone I know. It is an experience that everyone should go through because it helps you grow. We are all resistant to change because of the uncertainty. But change is when real growth happens. Walk through fear! You can do ANYTHING you put your mind to. Plus it does amazing things for your body so its a no brainer! I'm so glad I did this with Dan. I'm so overwhelmingly grateful its hard to explain! I could not sell this product without knowing what it feels like and now I am glad to say I stand behind the Ultimate Reset 100%! Anyone that knows me knows I'm honest. I have a fulltime job, my coaching job with Beachbody does not pay all the bills so I'm not just saying that because I have a ploy to lure people in. If I did not feel this was a great product--I would say that. My goal is to help anyone in any way I can by ending the trend of obesity! I want everyone to live the longest and best life possible!

So....where do we go from here?
For me, I'm going to be what Tony Horton (creator of P90X) refers to himself as, a Flexitarian. I will pretty much be vegetarian most of the time. I will allow myself to have seafood if that is the only option available or if I really want it! Honestly I do not think I could ever fully give up sushi. I love it so much. I used to love chicken but at this time I really do not crave it and it does not seem appetizing. Red meat does not seem appealing what so ever anymore. I love cheese and eggs so being vegan is not in the cards for me right now as I am not willing to give those up. If in the future I do feel the need to incorporate chicken and/or red meat into my diet I will! I am all about intuitive eating and listening to your body. As of right now I am going with how I feel. I've learned many different ways of getting protein other than meat and am excited to cook different dishes! As for my beloved coffee, I do miss the taste SO much. I no longer need it for energy like I used to but I do miss the taste. With that said I will probably go back to coffee but make it more of a treat thing or just limit myself to less a day because before I relied on it way too much. I did have green tea this morning because I missed having something hot and my Keurig was looking at me. The green tea was lovely! As far as sugar goes I have to limit it. I used to literally eat something sweet everyday. One cookie every morning, a starburst, etc. I don't NEED it. I do love baking and will continue to do that but will limit myself and my family on the sugary sweets because its just not good for you!

As for Dan he will go back to eating chicken and fish (in fact I packed him chicken for lunch today). He said at this time he is going to try to avoid red meat. With that said he does want to eat LESS meat. I'm thinking we could do about 3-4 dinners a week being vegetarian for him. He is going to try his hardest not to go back to drinking soda or energy drinks which makes me SOOO happy! That was the biggest thing I was concerned with as far as his diet before. He drank one cup of coffee this morning and feels good. We both just love the taste of coffee!

As far as fitness goes I'm planning on doing the old program I was on at the gym before the reset where I do HIIT for cardio and lift. PS I worked out this morning and felt AMAZING! It is recommended you do not go back full throttle right away so I was careful when I was lifting.  Dan says he will do the same at the gym continuing cardio and lifting.  On the weekends I also plan on continuing trail running and Sumits hot yoga when time allows. We both want to continue to add lean muscle. There is also a Crossfit place that opened up right across the street from us that we want to try out!  But once Focus T25 is released we are sooooo getting it and doing it together! We are not sure if we will lift in addition to this. We have to get the program and see what it is all about first. We are both huge Shaun T fans and know any program he puts out will rock our socks. Check out the video about the program here

So that is everything! We both want to thank you all again for following along with us on this journey. We appreciate the overwhelming support we received! If you have any questions at all contact me here, on FB, or on IG.

On Wednesday we are off to California for Disneyland and the beach! We couldn't be more excited. Lee is already packing :)

Have a great week!

Ultimate Reset Day 18

Day 18!

Thursday, Day 18

Wow the end is near! Kind of crazy.

Breakfast was fruit! My love for papaya is still going strong.

Lunch was a Moroccan Carrot Salad over greens. It was really good! The seasoning was sweet, tangy, and had a little kick. Perfect combo.

Dinner was my fav! Garlic veggies with my beloved sweet potato. I made hearty vegetable soup as Dan's side for his garlic veggies and he loves that soup!

Today we both felt fine. Not tired and not energized, simply fine though. The end is close so I think we are both focused! I'm REALLY excited to have more freedom when I cook soon. And I'm REALLY excited to have someone else prepare a meal for me :)

I hope you all have a fabulous weekend! I will not post days 19, 20, and 21 until Monday. On Monday I will also post our results (so many of you have been asking about weight and measurements), final thoughts, and such. Please everyone remember the Ultimate Reset was not designed as a weight loss program! Weight and inches lost are usually a side effect but it is not the sole purpose. I see a lot of people get focused on the number and I do not want anyone to be confused with the purpose of the Ultimate Reset.

Happy weekend!

Ultimate Reset Day 17

Hello Day 17!

Wednesday, Day 17

Breakfast was fruit!

Lunch was a spinach salad and baked sweet potato. Loved this lunch because it had my beloved sweet potato! Plus I was feeling hungry when the lunch is only a salad so the sweet potato helped keep my hunger under control.

Dinner was roasted squash and green beans. The squash was REALLY good. I was actually contemplating switching up dinner for another dinner but I'm glad I didn't because the squash was a nice surprise. And we love green beans anyway so needless to say we were happy with dinner.

I was tired in the morning but got my energy back by lunch. I wasn't in as grouchy of a mood as the day before but still kind of having a hard time. I think I am wanting more food and since its near the end I'm getting anxious to be able to cook my own recipes again! Dan didn't feel tired but he did have a harder time than usual. That is the thing about the Ultimate Reset, it is life changing and there are ups and downs! If it was easy then everyone would do it. We have both gone through difficult things in our lives so we certainly can get through a 21 day clean eating program, especially when we are doing amazing things for our body! Plus we are so close to the end, we can't stop now.

Stay tuned for tomorrows post about Day 18!

Have a great day!

-Nat
